To understand the origin and evolution of the banking industry and the role money plays in our society – you have to watch “The Ascent of Money”. Based on his book, Niall Ferguson, a Professor of History at Harvard University, traces the creation of the first banking system in Italy back in the 14th century and follows the development and adoption of this institution to all the financial centers of the world. Not only has money played a role in the development of our civilization but has played a key role in determining the outcome of many of the historical events in our past.
Much of the basis of our financial dealings have their origins in the development of the banking system and the financial products that were invented as a result of creative thinking. Where this series ends up is just how the financial institutions positioned themselves in the mortgage and credit industry in modern day and the role it took in the credit credit crisis.
